With jetlag slowly going we spent another day wandering around Auckland. We first headed to the museum which was excellent - loads of mauri artifacts and some really good exhibitions about the world wars. In the evening we headed to a food hall which was fantastically cheap and tasty. Tired and fed we headed back to the hostel.
Next morning we headed down into the city to pick up our luxury campervan and headed up north to the Bay of Islands. The drive up was beautiful (though the roads were slightly hairy in places). It is a bit weird driving an automatic - keep on reaching for the gear stick! We stayed for the next two nights in Paihia in a nice little holiday park. On day 11 we headed out on a dolphin spotting boat trip but there were no dolphins. They gave us a free trip to use but as we were headed to Rotorua on day twelve we couldn't use it. Nevermind - it was a nice ride around the islands in any case.
On day 12 we headed to Paihia Baptist Church in the morning - generally a good experience and it was a shame we couldn't stay longer to chat but we had a long drive ahead of us to Rotorua. We got a bit of rain on the way down but we made it safe and sound to the campsite. Kat even drove for a little while to pick up some food at the supermarket for dinner - steak and salad. Yum!
It was very cold in the night though - woke up early and had to turn on the engine to get the heater going - was 2 degrees Celsius outside. Chilly!!!!
Anyways, need to go - time is running out.
Twelve days down, 68 to go.......
