The Sailing Safari days 16, 17, 18, 19,

wow!! Its hard to think what to put in words about the sailing safari and the four days we were out on a deserted Island in the South Pacific. I will try anyway, the trip was organised by Fijians on a tall ship called 'spirit of the pacific' which left Nadi and headed out towards a group of Islands called the Yasawas. On board was a crew and 10 guests (including Ben and I)all from various countries and all who we became really good friends . It was great to think we were the only Brits on board. There were a couple from USA, a french man, a New Zealander, a german couple and a czech couple. All different ages, they were brill company and we learnt so much from them!. On the trip and during the day we had various activities. we went snorkelling which was very new for me on the reefs, we had a hike, went to a villlage on a Island, caught crabs (at night with a torch then we ate them the next day yummy!) and we sailed around beautiful waters!

During the evening we droped anchor at 'Barefoot Island', which was very small, in fact you could walk from one side to another in a matter of a couple of minutes, both sides had a beach - sunrise and sunset and 10 Bures (traditional wood huts) they had only a fan as electricity but nothing else, the facilities were basic with little hot water. It was paradise!! at night it was so dark and all you could hear was the sea. I made the mistake the first night of shinning the torch at the ceiling. I found the largest spider i have seen in the wild, scary stuff but fortunately we had mosqito nets.

we had yummy food and fun evening entertainment , our 'cultural' British contribution was singing 'Swing Low, sweet Chariot' with actions!! everyone did sing along!!.

I feel for me the village visit was the most interesting, the people were so nice and you really felt their unity and love for another. It was humbling as I feel in some ways value and love for one another is somewhat lost in British society. The people had very little and yet their lifestyle was healthy and happy. We have so much to learn!!

Anyway time is running out - from the pics on facebook you should get some idea as to what it was like!!

19 days down, 60 days left ....
