Fiji Time: Days 20 to 27

Sorry for the delay in this post - but we've been on Fiji time!

Anyways, after our sailing adventures we headed back to Nadi for three nights. Nadi is a bit rubbish but we did head off to find the Garden of the Sleeping Giants which was very beautiful. It used to be owned by the chap from Ironside and is just some really nice gardens with lots of orchids. We decided to save some pennies so we took the bus which was interesting to say the least. A very bumpy ride on some questionable roads but we survived to tell the tale.

Our accomodation was a bit ropey - Kat got bedbug bites and then on the last night the owner (who was in the next villa) decided to get drunk and fell asleep with her radio on full blast! Needless to say, we didn't pay for that night.

Next up was the Octopus resort on Waya Island in the Yasawas. We turned up at the port ready to catch our boat when we heard a Tsunami was on its way! (Although we later learned it had passed by over an hour before). Despite the lack of a Tsunami the boat ride was a bit choppy - a real boneshaker!

The resort itself was really plush and actually gave us a bit of time to relax - Ben read about four books in five days and Kat worked on her tan! The food was lovely - restaurant quality. All you can eat buffet for breakfast, proper lunch and three course dinner. We didn't feel like it was the "real Fiji" particularly but it was very nice nonetheless.

On the Sunday we headed to the local Village for Church. Even though the service was in Fijian it was a great experience. Afterward one of the locals invited us to his house for lunch as we were the last guests to leave church. It was a unique experience and a sharp contrast to the resort. All the family was really welcoming and the were 4 or 5 generations joining in.

After leaving Waya Island we had one day back on the mainland before heading back to NZ!!!!

27 days down, 53 to go....
