Well, we woke on September 11 to find that the East coast of America seemed to be experiencing a tornado. Nice - not quite what we had hoped for....
Anyways, not to be put off we ventured back into Manhatten to see some more sights including a rather rough ride to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. Pretty impresive stuff, as was the Empire State Building. Less impressive so was Maceys, which was more like an American Primark rather than Harrods - must be the credit crunch!
So after a day of trudging around New York in our souvenir Statue of Liberty ponchos, looking every bit the tourists that we are we headed back to our hotel room for an all too brief sleep before our flight to LA. Because of the early start, our flight getting delayed, then the taxi shuttle taking his time we ended up having lunch a whole twelve hours after breakfast. Not to be recommended. Because of the pangs of hunger our judgement was sorely clouded and we ended up in that bastion of American fine dining, McDonalds (Hollywood branch)!!!
First impressions of LA are......its a bit of a dump really. Hollywood sign is a bit small, walk of fame is looking tired and several ageing hippies seem to have found some soiled fancy dress costumes to persuade people to part with their dollars. Spiderman never looked so rotund.
Anyways - back to the room for a bit of rest then back out for dinner and to see Hollywood Boulevard at night. Tomorrow, hopefully we'll be able to find our way to John McArthur's Church which is just north of LA.
Four days down, 76 to go!!!
